This is one familiar 'word' which will be often used by many of us (especially IT Professionals, Army Guys and of course now a days, President Bush... ) not that they like this word, but mainly it comes automatically when they find themselves in a s*%# position where they have to simply utter 'S*@t'...

I came across this nice information about the history of the this. For 'Self Styled Copy right policemens '...this information is for Fun only, Its not necessary to invent the wheel every time when you need it, you can make use of the best information, inventions etc and appreciate them rest of things care a S*%#.

History or Shitory :
(*-Shitory is that 'history' which stinks ... and every time you think about it and you say ...Shit!!!)

In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure were common.

It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, not only did it become heavier, but the process of fermentation began again of which a
by-product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles, you can see what could (and did) happen.

Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening.

After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term "Ship High In Transit" on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of
methane.

Thus evolved the term "S.H.I.T " , (Ship High In Transport) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.

You probably did not know the true history of this word. Neither did I.

Well,thanks to my genealogy efforts, you can now respond in an intellectual way.
Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc. They had one son, Jack. In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt.

The deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt. Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout.

After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later married Ted Sherlock, and because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Schitt Sherlock.

Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they produced a son with a rather nervous disposition named Chicken Schitt.

Two of the other six children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony. The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens nuptials. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd,and Horse.

Kannada Rajyosavada Shubashayagalu
Tomorrow its Kannada Rajyotsava, this rajyotsava is special because we 'kannadigas' celebrate our Golden Jubilee celebration. India became a Republic in the year 1950 and in same year linguistic provinces were formed. The state of Mysore is one such state in south India.

The state of Mysore was created taking into fold various parts of the region, Several districts in, now called North Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka were dissolved in the new state. The new state was named after Mysore.

People of North and Hyderabad area did not accept the name Mysore. People of this region were demanding a change in the name. After prolonged debate the name of the state was changed to Karnataka on November 1, 1973. Officially the new state was born on November. 1 and on this day every year birthday of the state is celebrated. This is popularly called as Kannada Rajyotsava or Karnataka Rajyotsava. Rajyotsava means "birth of a state".

As the great kannada poet 'Kuvenpu' has said
"Yelladru iru, Hegadaru iru, endendigu ne kannadavagiru ...
(Where ever you are, However you are be a kannadiga).

Flying Dreams...

Date: 03/10/2006

It's a dream come true to any mangalorean or well wishers of this wonderful place called 'Dakshina Kannada' as today mangalore airport became international airport with direct flight to UAE. The union minister for civil aviation Mr. Praful Patel inagurated and also promised to bring state of the art integrated terminal building at the cost of 147 crore. Cool isnt it? I am excited of seeing many possibilities where Mangalore will emerge as next hot destination in karnataka. (provided, our ever sleeping politicians and think tank will share this vision...)

But this is historic day and memorable day for any 'Dakshina Kannadigas' and to all kannadiga's in general.

I wish i hear some good things about our highway between Bangalore-Mangalore ....

Highlights:

-Flights from other Gulf Cities soon ...

Being a Technology enthusiast, I have always loved new technology and gadgets. I see many people misusing the mobile technology and troubling other in the process (many times unknowingly). It’s high time we think on some cell phone etiquettes and set some guidelines. Following are some of guidelines which might help (if not for anybody but to myself). These are not 10 commandments of cell phones but some suggestions.

1. Spare other from your babbling.
I am sure you must have experienced this many times, when you hear the guy/gal sitting next to you is going on pouring his heart out explaining his love life or seeking desperate advice on her period problems in details (?!). Please kindly spare others from this #@#$!.

2. set the right ring tone.
This is a tricky part as Cell Phone Company and some people have taken this very seriously and think ring tones reflect your personality (gimme a break!Where as this is a gimmick to create a market for ring tones, dot you think you youll not change yourself just by setting certain ringtones?). I hope you don’t expect a "Jhalak Diklajaa..Jhalak Diklajaa.." in a serious meeting. Do you?

3. Switch off during public performances.
This happens all the time, the Guy sitting behind you want to find out what went wrong in the stock market,... forget about your favorite Ghazal, now listen to him and his stock market updates ..Err.

4. Don’t put on a Batman-utility belts.
You must have seen many 'Gadget freaks' who sport many devices around various parts of their body (A walking robot?!). Some even look like batman with his bat utilities except underwear is worn inside unlike batman wearing out side his tights (so what? you look same). Please look more human avoiding unnecessary gadgets and rather look like a 'Pappu-Pager'.

5. Don talk on the cell while driving.
Oh yeah I herd you saying "we herd this many times…blah,blah", the problem is people still do that on the road, despite fines or any laws (who cares?). Please don’t put other people in jeopardy too while already you made plan to attain the state of 'Moksha' thru cell phones.

6.Do not wear hands free where its not necessary..
Do you remember the ad 'One black coffee please…', By wearing hands free and walking carelessly around the public place and confusing the people around with your care free manners.

PS:But I love the way these Chennai dames wear coolest saris, open hair with full long Gajras and of course hands frees (!!!) (dont belive me come and check out...).

7. Do not speak louder on cell phone.

or rather should I say Do not lie loudly on the cell phone (do it slowly...:))when you are standing in between the people. I am sure you must have herd many times, as it happened to me… when I was doing window shopping of electronic gadgets suddenly…a guy who was standing next to me said "Of course honey, I am in McDonalds...", I got confused and came out and re confirmed my self that I am standing in duty free shopping arcade !.

8. Enjoy the life too.
What’s the use of paying heavy price for a movie ticket and you start chatting in the cinema hall (screwing up others happiness too).

9. Do not attempt to impress with cell phone, it’s just a phone.
Literally becoming addict for the latest cell phones you keep changing cell phones faster then changing the girlfriends, unless you see a significant advantage of the latest model… don’t change them.

10. cell phone is not your game console.
You expect to play Tomb Rider, Wizzcraft on your cell phone… come on go get a PSP for yourself NOW, then getting glued to your tiny cell phones.

well..., Im not preaching, but please think about others when you are in some public place. Do not forget your cell phone etiquettes, Do you mind...?

Mobile phones are the only subject on which men boast about who's got the smallest.

Oh! God its 7:30 already, one more SRS’s and I am done for today…on the second thought.. I can do it tomorrow …

I got up from seat locked my locker and Comp. Now I am going towards car parking. On approaching my car, viola! The car lock opens automatically from the ‘Bio-Chip’ implanted in my body, I sit down stretching my legs, Yawn,.. Its been a hectic day with all the meetings and mindless discussions and my boss kept on testing my patience..Suddenly, A pleasant female voice…”Prashanth, Please fasten your seat belts and enter the ‘destination’ “ (umm that’s my ‘Kar-Komputer’ reminding me to fasten the seat belts, as I always forget to do that). I fasten my seat belt and said ‘Status’, the Kar-Komputer starts reading out all the details of the car status like.. Fuel 80%, Air pressure…. blah, blah etc. And a scratch on the rear door…(I almost yelled) WHAT?!!, when did this happen?, Kar-Komputer replied “Today morning during your drive to office..”, I said “damm..chennai traffic”.

Now I am very upset but entered my destination “Home” (man, I like this voice operated gizmos), suddenly ‘TING’ video mail on the panel poped up and its my friend on the screen “Magne, saaku company uddara maddidu, bega baa, we are waiting”. I gave them a lame excuse saying “sorry guys, today I am not feeling well, slight heache, I will catch you tomorrow..pakka”. Before they could say anything I closed videomail.

Phew!, what a day, and I noticed my Kar-Komputer has set AC and armrest to my suitable setting, I am pleased …but hey!, car’s ‘Back Door’ was open and could not be closed!, oh!, what is this?, oh Great! My Kar-Komputer is showing some ‘blue screen error’ .. I said in disgust “I should install KarLinux 8.0, only that will slove my problem…” thinking about this I restarted my Kar-Komputer.

I took over from the auto pilot into manual and started enjoying the drive. Oh!, oh!, one more interruption …(This time its my home computer reminding me to pickup Food supplies and other related stuffs). Hom-Kompy “Prashanth, I kept on reminding you for the past 3 days, If you don’t get food supplies you’ll be hungry today..” ( yeah, I kept on procrastinating end result Food Status .. Almost empty..sigh) . I said OK, OK Today I’ll get all the stuff for sure, pakka. (I turned my car towards ‘Food World oops Spencers).

At last I reached home and yes ..you guessed it correct, the doors opened automatically…(duh!) I picked up my stuffs and entered my house ….A sweet voice said “How was your day? Prashanth”. I murmured “fine” and sat on my couch. Sensing my mood Hom-Kompy sent a request to my refrigerator to prepare a nice cold orange juice with extra suger added (Psst: My mom programmed my Hom-Kompy to give me lots of water as I forget to drink water often) [I must tell you guys here that my entire house is fitted with latest state-of-the-art gizmos and gadgets, and lots of powerful electronic sensors integrated with various systems etc, and you wont believe this entire complex systems are managed my ‘Hom-Kompy’ running on embedded MicroLinux, I just love this computer system sometime I even wonder and be amazed how does it efficiently handles all the system so effectively without any exceptions, bugs etc. ] I was pleased with the Hom-Kompy and thought about the upgrade into next version which my friend suggested. Again Hom-Kompy said “Prashanth, Do you like some music before your shower?” again I murmured “hmm hu” and wow! Its my favorite song… Ek ladki ko dekha to aisa laga..from 1942: a love story. And Hom-Kompy said mildly “your Tee-Shirt,Bermuda and Towel is on the bed, you can take shower now, The teemprature is …blah blah. Humming this Kumar Sanu’s song in S.P’s voice I entered bathroom (?!!).

Hmmm, After the bath I am feeling fresh then what is it? Sniff…sniff..’Goli Baje & Coconut chutney ’ (wow, once a mangalorean, always a mangalorean). The Hom-Kompy sensed my thought and said “yeah, its goli baje prepared according to your mother’s receipe “ (hmmm, mom you programmed this one too, I love you mom). The Hom-Kompy said “Did you pickup food supply, which I remembered you?”…ummm my mouth was full with Goli Baje’s.

Now I sat in my ‘LazyBoy’ couch fitted with all the control panel and sat in front of my ‘High-Definition Projector TV’ (I never liked regular TV in a small box, Ahem..I want to watch TV on a big wall err..screen like a movie theatre with best audio system connected J ,hmmm Now that’s what I call ‘Home Theatre’.) I sunk in to my couch fully with the plate of Goli Baje and coconut chutney. I commanded Hom-Kompy “Did you downloaded the movie which I scheduled yesterday?” Hom-Kompy responded by saying “yes prashanth I downloaded latest Jaggesh movie ‘Yentha Bhanda Ninna Ganda’ (oye, come on guys I like jaggesh movies) Hom-Kompy further said “Do you want to watch it now ?”, I said “sure... “ muching my Goli Baje.

Boy O Boy, the movie started…TING…TING …Grrrrr… Incoming Videomail…Interrupting my movie on the High Defination Projector TV oops!, its my friends again online. One said “Dane Magga, we are still waiting for you, Are you coming or not?”. Now I invited them to come over and also told them we can watch latest Jaggesh move…(they seemed less interested), I told them Hom-Kompy prepared ‘Goli Baje’ (All of them with bright faces ) “oye, don’t finish them alone, we are coming right now, Itte barpa…” (I told you once a mangalorean….)

Hom-Kompy again said in a melodious voice “Prashanth, you dad remined you to fill the insurance premium and other mutual fund stuff at 6:00 …blah..blah..(Almost interrupting my jaggesh movie that too in a very interesting comedy scene.) TING….TING.. (oh, not again) This time my chota bro vinay from mangalore on the screen “Hey bro, wanna play online Kutti-Donne (Gilli-Danda) you promised!, I said ahem, my Hom-Kompy server is down I will play with you tomorrow, this time I will put this on my scheduler too…pakka, he said “ oh, wow, Goli Baje, Is Balekai Podi is also prepared?, Who made it? Drip…drip..slurrrrp drip..drip.. I closed the videomail.

Now I am fully immersed in the movie now and nobody can disturb me. I commanded Hom-Kompy “No more videomails till I finish my Goli Baje..oops sorry movie”.

Again Hom-Kompy “Prashanth,”, angrily “Now what?” Hom-Kompy “I need to upgrade my OS-Kernel from 6.3.4 to 6.8.1, I saw an update on the NET”. I said “OK Do it yourself or tomorrow I will update the kernel for sure, pakka”.

Again concentrating on the GoliBaje err..movie, I started thinking about Hom-Kompy how efficiently it handles everything even before I even think of anything. It keeps tab of house, food, drink, health, wealth etc.. TING..TING.. What the H$#@?, Hom-Kompy I told you no disturbance!…TING ..TING (Now fully awake)

Ooops, Its Mummy on my cell phone…aei what happened to video mails?!!(oh! God Actually I was sleeping on my couch watching my regular 21” TV) TING…TING I pickup the my mom’s call and enthusiastically told her about my ‘Digital Dream…..’ On patiently listening to my Digital Dream’ my mom simply said “Maga, Get Married Soon, you can do all of those stuff (Me: and many more …wink…wink) without any Computer or Hi-Fi stuffs…”

Che…, So much for Digital Dreaming…sigh!.

There is nothing like a dream to create the future.

A Movie for any Tom, Dick & Harry...

Mr. Deepak Tijori you made a big 'Oops!', out of 'Tom Dick and Harry' and just be 'Khamosh' for gods sake, dont do any more 'Fareb' with audience like us.

A Movie for any Tom, Dick & Harry...

It's a story of 'a mindless comedy' (literally) where Deaf (Dino), Blind (Anuj) and Dumb (Jimmy) shares a apartment. All these guys fall for a same neighbhourhood Girl(Celina-A true blonde) and try to line maroo and rest is supposed to be comedy (unfortunately).

The main villain Soprano (Gulshan,with one more getup) who has a export buisness of indian girls to foriegn countries (thus making our India a true economic super power ?!!!).

Celina and Kim Sharma (machi wali cum undercover (who never cover...) cop) are lives up to the classic saying "Ladkiyoo ka Dimak Gutno mein hota hai...".

The dialogues like 'Ande','Defective Piece', 'Items', 'Condoms/baloons' etc . are supposed to be combedy direct from the Tijori of Director Deepak.

One song 'Tanha Jiya Na' is really hummable but the director of Oops! once again shoots it so badly, you become 'fumable' after seeing the song sequence. Even the pole dance by celina and deep V neck of Kim is not attractive enough to pull the crowd (me too).

I wish i can say any good thing about this movie. But I must thank Manoj because he downloaded this entire movie from internet (!! :D) and saving my (our) money.

I like a film to have a beginning, a middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order.

This incident was told to me by my dear father and I cant stop laughing when ever some body asks me to teach 'Tulu' (A sweet spoken language from sourth Karnataka with histroy of its own, and my mother tounge,... coincidently Aishwarya Rai's too :)).

It all happened when one of my dady's colleague (a young beautiful one) showed her interest in learning Tulu and requested my dad to teach one Tulu sentence per day. My dad who till this date speaks un adulterated Mangalorean Kannada readily agreed to teach her some Tulu.

Like any typical language learning excercises she made note of common spoken sentences like "Oota aitha?..." in kannada into Tulu and so on.

She wrote down the Tulu sentence for "Oota aitha?..." as "Daneye vanas aanda?..." (What man, had lunch?...) and very excited on learning a new language.

Everything went well until one day she decided to experiment her new found Prowess on a fellow lecturer (who is a mangalorean) who is the most eligible bachelor in the institute by saying "Daneye 'manas' aanda?... " in front of everybody

Err...The guy was almost fainted & perspiring when he herd a beautiful dame asking him "Daneye 'manas' aanda?..." openly in front of entire office.

(ah!,Perfect Dream song sequence with 2000 dancers around...Cut to)

The dame was in full blushing when she was told about her goof-up, she made by saying 'manas' instead of 'vanas' because the translation goes something like "What man, Do you like me?"...

PS: Now you know a easy way to propose a mangalorean girl/guy by saying "Manas aanda?..." of course on the pretext of learning Tulu :), what say?, No blushings please.

Remembering those OOPS moments !!!

Prelude:
It was the first year of the college and we were excited about each and everything, especially we were very happy seeing ourselves without uniform. Everything seemed new and different, one day somebody suggested that we will bunk the Biology Practicals and lets see a 'Tom & Jerry' (!!;) movie in a near by theatre.

Incident:

Now everything was planned and i was told to buy the tickets as i was the only non-localite and nobody will recognise me. Once the ticket was bought someone suggested that we will go after 15 minutes so that nobody can recognise us.

We entered the theatre and the theatre was totally dark and we took the seat which ever we found. Now we were busy watching the movie..and lights were 'ON', after some time. It was intervel time and to our amazement and shock, we saw our 'Mathmatics Lecturer' sitting next to us. (oops!)

Both were shocked & embarrassed see each other in that theatre that too watching 'Tom & Jerry'. But (me & my BIG Mouth) Like a true obdient student (that i am) I said "Good Morning Sir".

Our Status : OOPsss.......

Remembering those OOPS moments!!

Prelude:

Like everyday evening around 7:30pm, after out cricket practice it was our 'lounging time' on the ground. Where we hangout with friends and discuss on every topic under the Sun (Setting Sun to be precisely). And obviously most of the topics were about ahem..'girls'.
Even though this incident happend during my teenage years, i feel embaressed whenever i think about it.

Incident:
We were chatting and busy in our own world, suddenly 'I' noticed a 'Beautiful Girl' walking near our cricket ground with her pomeranian dog, I had never seen her before near our cricket ground and she was so gorgeous...

I could not control my excitment and uttered somethig (me & my BIG Mouth..) like "wow,what a chick!, who is she?", on listening to this all my friends who were relaxing on the ground, got up and started looking at her (drip...drip..) with all the possible comments you can imagine.

Now, kahani mein twist yeah hai baiyya ke... Suddenly one of our friend 'M' got up looked at her for a while and said 'hey, come on guys, its my sister 'G'..', Errr.

Oh, O All of us..."Your what?!!..err"

Now everybody realizing our 'Galthi-se-mistake', everybody was silent and looking at all the places in the ground as if they are very busy in surveying the entire ground.

Remebering those OOPS moments..!!

I want to share one of the most embaressing moment in my life. Though It is very embaressing incident, at the same time Its very funny too. When i remeber the whole episode now, all i can say is OOPS... So i thought i can share this with you all people and make you laugh too.

Prelude:
I was selected for the one of the most Prestigeous Camp Republic Day Camp-1995' in the NCC. ' It was exciting and rewarding experience to get selected for such a exclusive & elite camp. We had a very tough training schedule and drill sessions every day which almost squezzed every drop of water in us. Even druing the night also we had to practice for a presentation on Karnataka-Goa culture. Fortunately or Unfortunately i was given a part of 'Tipu Sultan-A Great warrior of karnataka'. Where i had to enact the great warrior's secularism towards all the people during his rule.

I was very proud of my 'golden' voice (!) and my acting abilities (?!) but then ... CUT TO..

(Now, Please Imagine a 'Big Stage' with historic backdrop set and actors dressed in historic costumes & me in Tipu's Costume :) )

Incident:

The following was the actual dialogues which we enacted. Me as Tipu and two faryadi's infront of me begging for a permission to build a temple in their villege. and Tipu's trusted lieutenant opposing this on the pretext of some religious sentiments.

Cut - to:

Faryadi's: Sultan ki jai ho, Sultan, hum Ghav mein eek mandir banana chahate hai..aur.

(Immediately after listening this...)

Gazi Khan: Hum musallman 'bhuth parasthi' (offering prayer to Idol) ke sakth kilaf hai.

Tipusultan: (Stopping... Ghazi Khan) Nahi gazi khan,..Nahi... aap ye bhool rahe hai, ke humare ragoo mein bhi, isi mitti ka 'Khoon' daud raha hai. Mazhab aanek hai tho kya huva saab ka parvadigar eek hai...

bla bla bla....

.
Now on the full dress rehersal day (after breaking backbone with rifles and heavy shoes and all that stuff..), i uttered my dialogue something like ...

Tipu Sultan: Nahi Gazi Khan..nahi, aap yeah, Bhool rahe hai, ke Hamare ragoo mein bhi, isi mitti ka 'Tel*' daud raha hai.....

*Miti-ka-Tel = means Kerosin
*Khoon= Blood .:)

End Result:Faryadi's and Ghazi Khan ...visibly looking Konfused..Blink Blinks and some more Blinks

...Audience Shocked, then all burst in to...yeah, yeah GRrr.)

The technology has been touching our lives in many ways, to add 'life' into our life. To me technology is not just flaunting latest cell phones and latest gizmo's rather reaching out to the people who should really benefit and make their lives happier and more livelier.

What is Technology?
The application of knowledge to meet the goals, and serve the people who need them.

I feel happy when..
a farmer from small villege in karntaka(or any where) invents a new method to cut cocanut.
or uses a new sprinkler method to utilize water irrigation to grow quality crops more.

a simple girl student of Engineering from kerala designs a Washing machine powered by bicycle pedaling.

when i hear/read that entire city is getting 'wi-fied' so that people can access information whenever needed.

when a women Entrepreneur uses technology to maximize profit from her cottage industry.

when India is considered next Super Power not because of its nuclear/military power but because of its technology driven people.

I take this opportunity to salute all those 'people' who make technology to help 'people' like us.

My longlasting Friendship with Masala Puri

Disclaimer: This post on the 'Masala-Puri's (Poori's) are not imaginary and does not have resemblece with any or all of the 'Puri's both living and dead (or humm.., dead in your stomach:)). The Masala does signify the typical Bollywood Masala or other types of Hot Masala's. Its just a mere coincidence if you remeber any of those hot Masala's or Puri's(Poori's) seperatly or all together.

If my friends are waiting for a post on my travelling experiences to Germany then they have to wait for a while :). Now if you are wondering, What on the earth made me to write something on 'Masala Puri' (not to be pronunced as 'Masaaalaa Pooooori' like typica westerns.) then here you go.

After i landed here in germany, i have no way but to eat Food from TaajMohal: A expensive Indian resturant (?! I wonder why cant these guys come up with different name then Taj-Mahal always) or Fastfood resturant (Can you actually call them returants?!, humm). Its same food day after day then i couldnot help thinking about my Favorite 'Masala Puri'(drip..drip..drip..slurrrp).

After Eating the same Fast Food I was thinking about our own Desi Fast Food 'Pani-Poori and 'Masala Puri', I couldn't stop imagining these foods are being served in Fast Food resturants (Phir se returants?!) like Burger King, McDonalds Subway etc. I have eaten best chatts in Bangalore and Hyderabad along with my good friends (huh?!,Now if you are wondering from where these 'friends' come from?, ahem.. actually-I was broswsing thru a really interesting blog by Kushi, in which the phases of 'Friendship' was mentioned in various stages of life and I coundn't stop remebering all my friends who shared my Masala Puri :) and oh,yeah..... my friendship too!)

My first experience with Masala Puri was with Venkatesha in Shimoga, where i was studying my 10th. During those days we alwasys ate everyday very good, tasty, and Spicy( I will not get into more details because aab! Control nahi hota, yaha Mc Donalds mein bait kar.) for just Rs/- 2 ( ya! beleive me. and its also 2/- only for burger but in Euro ie. One Euro X.....sigh!).

It was always a treat to go with 'Venka', during the evenings and watch a Jackie Chan Movie in a very famous dabba theatre 'Manjunatha' in shimoga, which we fondly called it as our 'Mavana Mane!', (Now, dont get idea's how can we have both have same Mava?!!!, Come on Be Positive, or like mine O +ve, Mava can have many daughters, right?! ;)). The Masala puri mixed with Masala and hot green-peas and dressed with Tomatto and Onions,also Karabonodi on the top of it. wow it was a moment to cherish forever. These are the days when Venka and I bonded together to be Best Friends for forever. Though he still lives in Shimoga, I moved on to more greener pasters but never found the Same Masala puri and Same Friend. ...Until.....

I moved to Bangalore and made new friends and some really closest pals and surprisingly i tasted the Masala Puri of a different kind here and ofcourse costilier then Rs. 2/-. Though the Basic ingredient remained same, here i had the option of Masla Puri mixed with 'Samoosa' or 'cutlet' and many more. I again fell in love with My favourite Masala Puri all over again. Not to mention the friends who were regular company during my 'Masla Puri Yatra' (Don't confuse yourself with 'Jaganath Puri Yatra' :)). Many times it also became my Dinner as i did not had the patience to cook for myself. Though my friends did not shared my passion towards Masala Puri But they followed me whenever i went for 'Masala Puri Yatra'. It even happend that the Gadi owner 'Sanjay' (A typical bihari) used to start prepare Masala Puri even before i park my Suzuki Samurai infornt of his 'Gadi' and he never missed to give me a extra 'Sweet-Poori' before i did payment. Such a sweet chap.

This continued during my struggle days also after PG when Bharath joined me and we became much biggers lovers of Masala Puri. Like a typical mangalorean he liked his masala puri 'Sweet!!', though we ate Masala puri and Charmuri in Kadri-Park Mangalore, but the taste of these poori's are no match for what we ate in Bangalore ( Infact In Mangalore you wont get a decent Masala Puri, they make it just sweet poori which is not tasty and you cant actually call them Masala Puri). At times i ate more Masala puri then my fav. Maggie (did anybody said Yux). and Bisi-bele bath.

Nomatter, wherever i had been i always looked for good Masala Puri err. Good Friends as well... I ate authentic Masala Puri's (read Genuine Friends) also localized/mixed Masala Puri's (read -people with mixed interest or interest of their own in you!) and Many Sweet -Poori's (read Really cute,nice and sweet Friends). Many time people made me eat 'Khara' Masala poori and burnt my Tongue (!?) But I also ate good Sweet Masala poori and sometime 'Mediam Khara' Masala poori and enjoyed each one of them in their own way. The same things goes with my friendship with many 'Nice people' and with 'Not So Nice people' too. Many shared my Masala Puri from 'By-Two' to 'Full-to' (?!) and Khara to Mediam with or without pani...Despite my all my 'Khara' Masala puri's I still love my Masala-Puri's and ready to eat many more 'Khara' puri's too. And I will always enjoy eating Masala-puris, so do my friendships too.

The only way to have a friend is to be one.

I know this year is gonna special for me (me feeling Different, me Happy.. after long time). And i hope this Ugadi will bring more Maturity (What the F*$k!?),Happiness,Productivity and Openness in me. Though i have'nt done anything special today .....let me plan out this day to think about my future and preparation for my Future! (Future Perfect..hummm!).

Phew!, Till this date i never took new year resolutions seriously, i found them very funny, that you make a list of resolutions and never complete them. People who know me, (especially my mom...she thinks i am the laziest and Master of making mess out of everything...(Saale..prax, topic change mat kar!)) ............oops!,Okie Boss, so i was thinking that this time let me make few resolutions (of course on trailware basis!) and see how much i can make out of this 'Resoultion thingie'.

This year

i will try to remeber all my Friend's & Relative's Birthdays and Anniversary. I will make it a point atleast to wish them. ( Now when was her birthday, or was it her aniversary?!, too confusing yar!!!)

I will try be more organised then ever before and punctual on my appointments. ( Damm!,Now where is my f*#King Organizer?...huh?!)

I will Read atleast one good book every month. ( Duh!,I know..I Know, PlayBoy doen't count as a 'Good Book'!)

I will plan and work on my Certifications more seriously ( hey AP!, It's Show time, NOW).

I will not miss Good Kannada movie which is worth watching, whenever possible. (yess, Ramesh, Sudeep, Jaggesh...errr not upendra,I'm coming....)

I will spend more time with me and write down few things. ( Mein aur meri tanhai, aksar yeah baate karthe hai...)

I will be fit & workout regularly in the morning. ( ZZZ...hey procrastinator, wakeup..zzz)
I will grow long hai atleast for a few months. ( Already got some..... nahiiiii, hey bhagwan... it wont look good on you stuff, but i will do it this time, EEEhhaaa)

oh uh!, list is growing, i guess i'll stop here and take few breaths...one last new year resolution is that sincerely, i will keep updated my BLOG and my Website as much as possible. Really I mean it.

During the US presidential election campaign, Democrat candidate John F Kerry termed Bangalore as a completely `wired city'. Now the Government of Karnataka is going a step further to make it a `wireless city'.

My Dream is to go even further make Entire State of Karnataka 'Wireless' or even 'Wireless' India (Did you say 'its wireless already? huh!? ,as there is no wires in some parts of India, come on guys!, be optimistic, I am talking about "WIRELESS", phew!).

I Just wanted to share this info published in http://www.ciol.com/ that Govt. of karnataka is exploring a ambitious project to make Bangalore City Wi-Fi and a digital city in India. The Following are some extracted news.

“The vision of `Wireless Bangalore' is to enable citizens to enjoy broadband in their homes, offices, schools and public areas. Instead of being tied to offices, homes or individual hotpots, people would have fast convenient access to information – and each other – from virtually any corner of the city,” said Shankarlinge Gowda, Secretary IT and BT, Government of Karnataka.

“In the initial stage, which would be rolled out in 2006, it is envisaged that current Wi-Fi technology would be deployed at an appropriate section of the city that would demonstrate the viability of the project,”

“Already we have received proposals from IT companies for this project. March 27 is the last date to submit the proposal,” said a government official.

Isn't it a good news to see our bangalore rock i mean Wi-Fi. I hope bangalore will regain its status as most favoured destination to inves, and who knows later entire state is Wi-Fied completely to make it first state in the world to completely 'WiFied' (Did I coined a new word!?) and of course entire India.

I wish this will happen in my life time.

Design a podcast completely keeping in your listeners in mind.
Never mix anything which does not go with your intended listeners topics such as religion, politics etc should be given more thinking before it is voice over a podcast as these are very sensitive and personal topics.

Practice, Test ...some more of these.
Yes Practice and Testing is very important to capture your listeners tuned into your podcast. Always test your podcast with various environment before it is published as you don’t have much control after once it is published. Try to test and ensure your content is heard properly without much hassle.

Feed back .
This is the most trickiest part of all as you don’t know who and how many listeners you have actually, the best way is to maintain a Guest book and constant email contact with your listeners and always encourage your listeners to send feedback and publish with them with appropriate explanations, if required.

In the era of 'Great Firewall of unwanted restrictions' and restrictions on freedom of expression the people have always found a wayout to breath some fresh air and express their views. It may be expressing a political, economic or social views on various subjects or may be a idea's. Well everything happens in a good spirit for the betterment of the humanity.

History:

Justin Frankel, the rockstar of internet at the age of 18 developed WinAmp which went on to become defacto software to listen music on computers. He was paid a whopping $100 million to buy the software from America Online-AOL. Justin created another brilliant software called 'Gnutella'- a software client that lets people trade music online and put it up for the world to use. Unlike traditional networks where everybody connected to a contral node' Gnutella allowed peer-to-peer (P2P) connection directly. This goes something like this, Assume you and I have Gnutella installed on our computer ; on connecting to internet you can see what music i have on my machine and vice-versa. If you wish you can download them directly into your system. Some smilar reverse engineered variationsa are also available namely, Kaaza, Bearshare, and Limewire etc.

Justin came up with another innovative software called WASTE (An acronym for We Await Silent Tristero's Empire); it was inspired by the underground postal system described in Thomas Pynchon's book titled 'The Crying of Lot 49'. The WASTE differed from Gnutella significantly. If WASTE is installed on systems it dosent mean one can view or download what exists on others machine, each time we're online. If we want to share data/music we ought to invite each other to form a network, Here virtually everyone knows each other to form a network of buddies. Some of these network have as little as 10 people. But the system is so robust and active that it generated a seperate active group called 'Darknet'.

How to find a Darknet:

The entry into one of these networks takes some amount of digging. try www.grouper.com, It is a piece of software that maintains a directory of various darknet groups. You can find all type of people here so be careful, who want to swap music to those looking for videos, whitepapers, e-books; you'll find them all here, Hey you know what?, you can start your own group by making available a set of documents you want to share; may be you can browse through various groups to find the one which suits your interests and request members to allow entry. Because the entry is strictly 'by Invitation Only'.

A network led by a graduate from IIT, Kanpur 'Shashank Dixit', started a group called 'Krawler Network (Visit www.krawlerx.com )

Some time few tricks or a knolwdgeable friend will guide you to that pieace of information, which will give that cutting edge in whatever you are doing. I am writing this Blog is reflection of my facination towards technology, Though I am not Geeksih i appreciate the technology in our daily lives which makes more interesting day after day. The topic today i would like to Blog is ' HAM RADIO' also called 'Amateur Radio'.

Objective of this write up is to introduce a new Hobby which exciting and a learning experience for many. I strongly belive that everyone should cultivate a good hobby, which is beneficial at the same time fulfills some responsibilities towards society in return. The article is just a compilation on the topic no where i claim for any originality, My sole purpose of
this write up is to Just introduce HAM Radio to the people who have not heard about this wonder ful Hobby. There are number of HAM Clubs near your cities, There is a Tiny HAM club in Mangalore somewhere near Chaktrapani temple, Attavar, Mangalore and many more in Bangalore and other part of Karnataka ( Please see the HAM Club List at the bottom of this writeup). Exact address i shall post it some time later. I Wish more and more youngesters will adopt this exciting hobby.

WhY HAM Radio?
Scenario I:
You have witnessed a worst tsunami/disaster/earthquake or just an accident on a rural highway, Help is needed immediately..ya i know youll popup your cell phone but you are out of cell range...what do you do, You just Use a Pocekt sized HAM radio.
Connect to the world and seek help and update the status, in simple just reach out.

Scenario II:
You want to meet new peole and learn about their culture and traditions or simply make friends. You are fed-up chatting on a IM, now you wanto chatt with some real people..Ya i know, voice chatting over internet, but trust me this will blast your imagination to max. Yes i am talking about HAM Radio.

How did HAM Radio started ?
In September 1895, Guglielmo Marconi, a self-taught 21-year-old from Bologna, Italy, performed simple experiments that showed it was possible to send signals using electromagnetic waves to connect a transmitting and a receiving antenna. By 1901, he sent a wireless signal across the Atlantic. For the next seven years, many Americans experimented with wireless. The first radio clubs appeared in 1909, and the Titanic disaster of 1912 pointed out the need for regulation of wireless.

Today, ham radio operators regularly make radio contacts around the world, often using very inexpensive (and Yes!,sometimes home-made! try www.electronicsforu.com ) equipment.

Why would I get into ham radio?Ham radio is for anyone who likes to communicate with others via wireless technology. It is also for anyone who enjoys experimentation. Licensed amateur radio operators communicate with each other in nearby places, across the country, around
the world or even with astronauts in outer space! Amateur radio is a worldwide group of people who communicate with each other over a wide frequency spectrum using many
different types of wireless transmitting modes.

How Ham Radio Operate?
Hams use a variety of frequencies for communications. Non-hams can "listen in" via their own receivers or radio scanners. Hams are able to use many frequency bands across the radio spectrum -- these frequencies are allocated by the FCC for amateur use. Hams may operate from just above the AM broadcast band to the microwave region, in the gigahertz range. Many ham bands are found in the frequency range that goes from above the AM radio band (1.6 MHz) to just above the citizens band (27 MHz). During daylight, 15 to 27 MHz is a good band for long-distance communications. At night, the band from 1.6 to 15 MHz is good
for long-distance communications. These bands are often referred to historically as short-wave bands (as in "short-wave radio"). Unlike frequencies used by FM radio stations and TV stations, which are line-of-sight and therefore limited to 40 or 50 miles, short-waves "bounce" off the ionosphere from the transmitter to the receiver's antenna. The higher the frequency
is, the "shorter" the wavelength is.

Some ham radio operators use the very reliable Morse code, while others use voice. Morse code signals (beeps) often get through when voice transmissions cannot. There are also very many digital modes as well, and hams use radio modems to communicate in various networks.
Ham Radio Activities:Although a ham radio does broadcast in all directions, hams generally do not use their radios in a broadcast kind of way as a disk jockey would at a radio station. In normal AM or FM radio, one disk jockey transmits and thousands of people listen. Hams, on the other hand, conduct two-way conversations, often with another ham or with a group of hams in an informal roundtable. The roundtable of hams may be in the same town, county, state, country or continent or may consist of a mix of countries, depending on the frequency and the time of the day. Hams also participate in networks, often called nets, at predetermined times and frequencies to exchange third-party messages. In the case of disastrs, hams exchange health and welfare information with other hams. Some hams use radioteletype, (RTTY) with computer screens replacing the noisy teletype machines of the past. Many hams get their start on VHF FM, using battery-operated hand-held transceivers set to transmit on one frequency and receive on another frequency. They use FM repeaters, set up and supported by local radio clubs. These repeaters borrow antenna space from TV-station-tower owners on top of mountains and high buildings to receive and re-broadcast signals to extend the range.
Amateur radio satellites are a cutting-edge use of technology in amateur radio. Radio amateurs use their hand-held radios to communicate through an amateur radio satellite when the satellite is overhead. A indian satellite has launched by ISRO to improve HAM RAdio in our country.

Natural disasters like hurricanes or tornadoes disrupt normal telephone and cell phone systems. Ham radio operators pitch in to help with emergency communications, and you will often hear about them on news reports. On Space Shuttle missions, each member of the crew usually has an amateur radio operator's license. During breaks, astronauts hold their 1- to 5-watt VHF FM hand-held radios up to the shuttle window and chat with other hams for a few minutes, often at
schools while the shuttle is in an orbit overhead! VHF transmissions have a limit to line-of-sight communications and normally do not travel over the horizon, so a conversation is limited to the time when the shuttle is overhead.License RequirementsYou need an easy-to-earn license to transmit on an amateur radio frequency. License tests cover electronics theory and
amateur radio rules and regulations. Study guides are readily available. There is no age restriction. Each country has its own licensing arrangements.

Radiologists are turning to iPods to deal with the hassles of managing medical images. They're not listening to music, though; they're looking at pictures.
Medical images are increasingly important in diagnosing everything from cancer to heart disease to sports injuries. And they are used extensively for research, including brain function and experimental treatments, but they also require large data sets, making storing and transferring images problematic.

Two radiologists recently developed open-source software, called OsiriX, to display and manipulate complex medical images on the popular portable devices called iPods. The most current version of OsiriX, which speeds up some processes and fixes crash-causing bugs, was released on Tuesday.

In a bulletin of the Radiologic Society of North America, co-developer Osman Ratib, vice chairman of radiologic services at UCLA, estimated that 3,000 to 5,000 people worldwide are using the software, which essentially converts the iPod into a sort of plug-and-play portable storage device for images.
Ratib said the motivation for OsiriX came from problems storing images at work. "I never have enough space on my disk, no matter how big my disk is—I always need more space," he said. "One day I realized, I have an iPod that has 40GB of storage on it. It's twice as big as my disk on my laptop, and I'm using only 10 percent of it for my music. So why don't I use it as a hard disk for storing medical images?"

With OsiriX, medical image files can be sorted and managed much the same way as sound files. The software also allows radiologists to upload files to the Internet and supports instant messaging and e-mail attachments.

The software processes most images produced by medical equipment (MRI, CT, PET, PET-CT) as well as confocal microscopy and can read file formats including TIFF, JPEG, PDF, AVI, MPEG and Quicktime. It processes and reads images according to DICOM, a set of standards in medical informatics that deals with digital images.
Users can access files directly on the iPod, or transfer images from computer to computer, though only with Macintoshes.

Milton Silva-Craig, president and chief operating officer for Emageon Inc., which develops clinical analysis and medical image management software, told eWEEK.com that other image management companies are also working on ways to enable their applications to run on portable devices, including Tablet PCs and PDAs.

This Blog Article is heavyly borrowed from various websites and other sources, basically i wanted to depict history of my native. Manglaore also populary called as Kudla,South Canara,Kodial,Mycala etc. is a wonderful city with highly devleoped society strucute. The Concept of Tulunadu can be found in its culturer and heritage. The people of South canara/Mangalore are highly successful pioneer in various fields such as Banking, Hotel Industry, Science and Technology etc. I have tried to just compile from various source to present a short version of the regions history and background. Namma Kudla, South Canara, Mycala, Kodiala ....

Mangalore/(un-divided south canara) district is a panorama of palm-fringed beaches,lush green fields and enchanting forests. It is sheltered by the soaring western ghats on the east and the mighty Arabian sea roaring along its western shores.

Mangalore,the district headquarters, has a long history of maritime trade. Though developed as a business and commercial centres Mangalore still retains its old world charm-old tile-roofed buildings amidst coconut groves, fishing boats silhouetted against the darkening skyline, fishermen hauling in rich catch of fish,sea food served in spicy coconut curries.

The name of South Kanara (Dakshina Kannada) is derived from a wrong designation given to this region by the Portuguese in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. They found the people speaking Kannada and therefore called the region Canara. The region then included what today is Uttar Kannada. The English who took over the area after the death of Tippu Sultan in 1799 continued this nomenclature.

Until 1860, Canara - South and North were under a single Administration. In that year, the British split the area into South Canara and North Canara, the former being retained in Madras, while the later was made a part of Bombay Province in 1862. Coondapur taluk was earlier included in North Canara, but was re-included in South Canara later. Kasargod taluk was transferred to Cannanore District when the States were reorganized in 1956.

The Mangalore City is said to have been named after the famous Mangaladevi Temple. This temple was built by the Ballal family of Attavar in memory of a princess of Kerala.The Goddess Mangale is worshiped as Shakti. The festival is celebrated during 9 days of Navaratri (October).
Story About Mangala Devi:Veerabahu was the king of Tulunadu. When he became old he handed over his kingdom to Bangaraja with the approval of his master sage Bharadharaja. Veerabahu had no children and after relieving himself of the responsibilities of the king became a recluse.

Bangaraja proved a worthy successor to Veerabahu. He ruled his kingdom well and brought more glory and fame to his kingdom. On a certain night while he was sleeping Goddess Mangaladevi appeared in his dream and revealed to him that at the spot where Netravathi and Phalguni rivers converge there is a mound under which lay the remains of a shrine. Mother Goddess bade him to relieve from the remains the Shivashakthi Linga and the Dharapatra and install them in a shrine newly built. Then, she further said arrangements be made for the regular worship in the temple. She promised him that these services would bring him glory and happiness.

The king, not being able to decide as to what he should do consults sage Bharadhwaja. Bharadhwaja saint was very much pleased with the king and encouraged him to fulfill the wishes of the Mother goddess. He wanted him to know the past events, which had made the place a hallowed and blessed one. Listening to the story of Vikhasini, Andasura and also sage Parasurama, Bhangaraja decided to execute the responsibility entrusted to him by Goddess Mangaladevi herself.

Thus a beautiful shrine was built and the Linga Symbolizing Shiva and Shakti, along with Dharapatra were installed. Once again the splendor of the shrine began to attract the pious people.

At the later stage, Kundavarma once again renovated the temple where it was in a dilapidated condition under the guidance of Matsyendranath and Goraknath, holy saints of the Natha cult. In Tulunadu, Kundavarma, the most famous king of Alupa Dynasty was ruling. At that time, there came two sages named Matsyendranath and Goraknatha from Nepal. They reached Mangalapura (today's Mangalore), crossing the river Netravathi. The place where they crossed the river came to be known as 'Gorakdandi'. They chose a place near the bank of Netravathi, which was once the centre of activities of sage Kapila. He had his hermitage there and it was a great centre of education.

Hearing about the arrival of two saints the king came to meet them. Introducing himself as the king of Tulunadu he paid them his respects and offered them help and patronage. Pleased with the humility and virtues of the king they brought to his knowledge that his kingdom was a hallowed place and it was sanctified by the activities of holy saints and sages in the past. They requested him to grant them land so that they could build their hermitage and make it a centre of their religious activities under his protection and patronage.

For Kundavarma it was really a surprise to know that his land had such a hoary history. It was from these saints he came to know that once upon a time there exists a temple in his land dedicated to mother Mangaladevi. From their own mother he heard the story of Vikasini and Andasura, Parasurama and the temple built by him. The two saints took the king to places where all these historical events had taken place. They asked the king to dig the place and relieve the Linga and the Dharapatra symbolizing Mangaladevi and install them in a shrine along with Nagaraja for the protection.

Kundavarma carried out the advice of the two sages. A grand shrine of Shri Mangaladevi stood on the hallowed place. The two sages themselves guided and supervised the execution of the work. The temple attained special significance, as Mother Mangaladevi granted special favors, especially on Maidens, Pious Maidens who worship the goddess observing Mangaladharavrata (Swayamvara Parvathi) will have their wishes fulfilled. They get husbands most suited for them.

Even today the two temples, Mangaladevi and Kadri have maintained their connection. The hermits of Kadri Yogirajmutt visit Mangaladevi temple on the first days of Kadri temple festival and offer prayer and silk cloth.

The place name Mangalapura owes its origin to the temple of Mangaladevi. The pious people even today believe that worship of Mangaladevi brings them prosperity and happiness. The temple has a special significance for the maidens. Maidens who observe Mangala Parvati Vrata will have their wish of having a suitable match, fulfilled. Those who celebrate their wedding in this holy place will have a happy married life.

About The City:City Sights 357 Kms west of Bangalore is the district headquarters of Dakshina Kannada, Mangalore. With an important port, this coastal town is a major commercial Center. Mangalore could be your entry point to Beach Country- with its virgin and unexplored beaches. While in Mangalore try and see a Yakshagana performance- an elaborate dance from unique to Karnataka.

The Kambala (buffalo race) is another exciting event. A trip to Mangalore would be incomplete without a visit to the 10th century Kadri Manjunatha Temple, St.Aloysius chapel, Mangala devi Temple, Tippu’s Battery and the Jumma Masjid. The Ullal beach with casuarinas groves is another attraction that draws tourists all through the year.

The District Head Quarter, which is also called as The Gateway of Karnataka with its Harbour where import and export of Crude Oil, Iron Ore, Wood, Spices, Food grains takes place. Pilikula Nisarga Dhama: Nearly 10Km away from Mangalore highway road at Moodushedde the Pilikula Nisarga Dhama is situated. This offers a panoramic view for the nature lovers. It is a very significant place with Botanical gardens, Horticultural gardens, Musical fountains, deer park, swimming-lake with boating facilities, tiger safari and children train. It extends to an area of 350 acres land along the tropical jungle on the bank of the Gurpur river.

Gokarnanatheshwara Temple of Kudroli:Gokarnatheshwara Temple at Kudroli in Mangalore is the only temple in Karnataka set up by Shri Narayana Guru, the great philosopher, saint and social reformer from Kerala. Shree Narayana Guru had visited Mangalore in 1912 and expressed his wish that the Billavas should build a temple for themselves. Read On
Shri Venkataramana Temple, Car Street, MangaloreIt was believed that temple was founded during 17th century A.D. (1735). The present idol erected in main sanctum of Lord Sri Venkataramana of temple is said to be original symbolic idol of the Lord Sri Venkataramana. It is also said, Sri Mahla Pai from a noble family of Mangalore belonging to Gowda Saraswatha Brahmin Community of Kaushika lineage erected bronze idols of Lord Sri Veera Vittala and Lord Sri Gopalakrishna. Inside the main sanctum of the temple, there established idols of deities - Goddess Sri Devi and Goddess Bhoodevi along with main deity Lord Sri Veera Venkatesha, festive idol of Lord Srinivasa, Shri Mula Venkaaramana, Garuda Vahana Shri Gopalakrishna and Shri Veera Vittala.

Church of Our Lady of miracles:
Bishop Thomas de Castro, a Theatine priest of Salesette, built the Church of Our Lady of Miracles, better known as Milagres Church of Mangalore, in 1680. It is thus more than 320 years old. This Church is situated in Hampankatta of Mangalore city and it is famous for its architectural construction.

The Kadri Manjunatha Temple:

The other old temple of aging 1068 A.D. is Kadri Manjunatha Temple. It is said that the incarnation of Shri Vishnu, Shri Parashuram had installed the Shivalinga and named it as Manjunatha at Kadali Kshetra (Kadri).

The speciality of the temple is that spring water flows out as a stream through an outlet known as Gomukha below the seat of idol of Lord Ganesh. This water is conveyed to the 9 Tanks by the side of the temple. The tanks are situated at a higher level and Manjunatha Temple at a lower level approximately 100 ft. There is a mutt belonging to Nath Cult. Next to the Mutt is a cave called Pancha Pandava's Cave.

Over the Kadri hills a park is situated called "Kadri Park", which is a home to a few wild animals. It is also known as "Deer park". Also in the same area a children's park is provided with a children's train. This place also hosts a Flower show organized by the Horticulture Department every year.

Rosario Cathedral: The Church of the most Holy Rosary, MangaloreRev. Fr. Urban Stein S.J. a German (1845-1888) was the first Parish priest of the Cathedral. He introduced the order of Ursuline Franciscan Congregation in the Cathedral in the year 1888. Mother Nymppa Paullina Fernandez daughter of John Francis Fernandez, deputy Collector, South Kanara was the first superior. During this time it was decided that those who would contribute Rs.200/- to Rs.500/- and superintend the work of the Cathedral for one year should be granted the honour of Principals or Founders. Shri Sharavu Mahaganapathy Temple:, MangaloreSituated on the heart of the city Hampankatta, it is one of the famous ancient temples of South Kanara District. The origin and importance of the temple is narrated in skanda purana. Sharabeshwara and Mahaganapathy are the principal deities in the temple. The chief God Sharabheshwara situated in front of the temple but the popular Mahaganapaty attracts devotees is situated to the south of the temple. Vinayaka Chathurthy August-September Simha Maasa is most important festival for Mahaganapathy. But the utsavas starting from Chandramana Ugadi continues for 9 days in the main annual festival for Sharabheshwara.

Kudroli, Mangalore Sri Narayana Guru (A social reformer and a saint) constructed this temple in 1912. This temple is situated at Kudroli, which is about 3 Km away from the main city area of Hampankatta. The original temple structure was in Kerala style, which was replaced, by Chola style during recent renovation in 1991. The main deity of the temple is Lord Sri Gokarnanatha (another form of Lord Shiva). Navarathri Utsava (Dasara festival) is very famous and is one of the main tourist events in this temple. A grand procession of Goddess Durga takes place during this festival, which attracts many tourists and devotees from distance corners of the state and is very popular like Mysore Dasara. Read On

Mahatobhara Shree MangalaDevi Temple:, MangaloreSituated 3 Km Southwest of Mangalore City, this temple has influence on the name and importance of Mangalore. The word Mangalore is derived from Goddess Mangaladevi, the main deity of the temple. The temple built in memory of the princess of Malabar Mangale in the 10th century. Sultans Battery: For preventing the entrance of warships into the Gurpur river 6 Kms away from the city at Boloor on the banks of the river Gurpur, Tipu Sultan had built a miniature fortress making provision for mounting cannons all round. From the top of the Battery one can enjoy the sunset also.

St. Aloysius College and St. Aloysius Chapel:

On the top of the lighthouse hill 2 km from Mangalore is the Light House an 18-century-old monument inside the Tagore Park standing, adjacent to the Idgha- a place where the Muslims offer pooja during their festivals. An ancient chapel called St. Aloysius College Chapel is situated by the side of the Lighthouse. The walls and roof of the chapel are decorated with paintings depicting Bibilical stories. An Italian Jesuist Fr. Mocheni did the paintings. Next to the chapel stands an 18-century-old St. Aloysius College, which is a reputed educational institution.

Ullal:

On the bank of the river Nethravathi 12 Km from Mangalore Ullal is situated, Many Seafood and canned food factories are situated in this area. It has a beach resort at chota Mangalore of Ullal on the bank of the Arabian Sea called Summer Sands beach resort. Well famed saint Syed Mohammed Madani Darga and college imparting Arabic education, is also located here. About three Km from Ullal a place Called Kotekar, on the top of a Huge rock a temple named Somanatheshwar stands with its grandeur of sculpture of ancient times. The ruins of the Fort of queen Abbakka Devi of Ullal can be seen around the temple. The alluring beach is also named as Someshwar beach.

Panambur Beach:

13Km from Mangalore on the north of the National Highway is the Panambur beach. On the 11th of Jan 1975, as the 9th Major port of the country the new Mangalore port was opened near Panambur. For visitors a pass is to be obtained from the Secretary Mangalore Harbour Port Administrative Office. In the vicinity of the Port lies the Mangalore chemical and Fertilizers Factory and the Kudremukh Iron Ore Factory. The iron ore from Kudremukh and other accessories are transported from this port.

LOCAL FESTIVALS / EVENTS: The "KARAVALI FESTIVAL" is held in February every year. Organized by the Government of Karnataka, this festival celebrates the rich culture of the coast. It also observes quaint rituals like the "BHUTA" (DEMON WORSHIP, do not think of local Bootha's), NAGAMANDALA and DEMON DANCE. Sports like the KAMBALA-the BUFFALO RACE and KORI KATTA or the COCK FIGHT are played with much enthusiasm

Moodabidri: It is a Jain Shrine pilgrimage called "Jain Kashi". Pilgrims from different places and countries come here to worship the Thirthankara in different basadis. It is 35 km from Mangalore. 5 centuries ago a Basadi called "Saavira Sthamba Basadi" was built here. It still appears very magnificent.

Service / express busses takes approximately one hour (if you enjoy roller coster ride then you'll simply love these bus drivers) best from the service bus stand at Nehru maidan in Mangalore. Costs about Rs. 15-20 depending on the route taken by the bus. Around 35 kilometers from Mangalore to Moodabidri, taxis too will take you there. By taxi it cost about 300 - 350 Rs. for a round trip. Karkala: or karla It is 52 kms northeast. The 452 ft tall monolithic statue of Bahubali and the St. Lawrence Church are the main attractions here.
VarangaNearby, is an important Jain pilgrim Center 16 kms from Karkala.

Kateel Durga Parameshwari Temple-Kateel: is located about 5 kilometers from the Bajpe Bus stand. As such going to Bajpe, using the Kavoor- Marakada Route is the most convenient as the road is well maintained since it is also the access route to the Mangalore Airport. Further the winding roads amidst green hills and valleys make it a very pleasant and memorable experience. Once in Bajpe town, take the straight road leading north to go to kateel.

Jamalabad: It is 40 kms east. The fort here was built by Tippu Sultan and named after his mother Jamalbee.

Udupi:The birth place of Udupi hotes is 60 kms north, this town has the famous Krishna Temple with the Golden Chariot. It is here that the saint Madhwacharya lived and preached 700 years ago. The famous Masala Dosa has its origin here. Now, it is the district head quarters of the newly formed Udupi District.

Polali: About 34 Km from Mangalore an ancient Temple dedicated to the Goddess Rajarajeshwari is situated, with an image of 12ft height, worshiped with the idols of Badra Kali, Shanmuga with Ganapathi, on either side. Every year a car festival lasting for a month is held and it is called as polali chendu. During the period of polali chendu, a football tournament is held as an important event of the festival.

Mulki Temples: In the north direction of Mangalore on the N.H 17 highway road at a distance of 28 Km, on the riverbank of Shambavi is situated a famous temple of Shri Venkatramana. The temple belongs to 1277 A.D. In the temple the images of Venkatramana, Bindu Madhava, Vittala and Ugra Narasimha are worshiped. The history of the place indicates that Shri Vijayendra Yathi of Kashimutt installed the image of Ugra Narasimha belonging to Vijayanagar here in 1565.

Mulki was earlier known as Mulikapur. In course of time Mulikapur changed to Mulki. Samantha kings who had donated "Inams" to this temple ruled this place. Now one can see the palace and the old ruins of the fort of Samantha Kings. The Bappanadu Durga Parameshwari Temple and twin temple of Somanath and Narayana are the other shrines of the Mulki. A buffalo race called "Arasu Kambala" also annually held here.

Dharmasthala: On the bank of the River Nethravathi at about 74 km from Mangalore and at a distance of 3 km from the bank, the Holy Place Dharmasthala is situated. With green vegetation and the hills environment with the river flow creates a calm serenity to the visitors. It is a pilgrimage to Hindus where the charity is the most predominant. The speciality of the temple is that the Lord Shiva is worshipped by Shivites called deity called "Manjunatha" and the priests are Madhwa Vaishnavas. A Jain family called the Heggade according manages the place. Food is served free here to the visitors. The management also extends the lodging facility to the visitors as service.

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade is the present Dharmadhikari, who is responsible for the installation of a Monolithic statue of Gommata sculptured at Karkala by Renjal Shenoy, a great sculpture, on a near by hill near to the temple. The name Dharmasthala was given by a Yathi Shri Vadiraja Swami of Udupi Sodemutt. A museum, Car Museum, Lalithodyana, an Aquarium park, yakshagana training center are the main attractions here.

Subramanya: A well-famed temple, inside the dense forest bordering the Western Ghats, is situated and is called Subramanya. The original name was Kukke as "Kukke" or basket by the priest of the temple had covered the Kukkelinga. Now this linga is inside the inner courtyard of the Subramanya Temple. The temple cart is nearly 150 years old. On the bank of river Kumaradhara a small shrine of Subramanya called "Mooladevaru" is also situated. It is a sacred pilgrimage to Hindus.

Venur: 45 km from Mangalore a monolithic statue of Gommata 38 ft. height is situated. The place is called Venur. Veera Thimmappa Ajila 4 installed this Gommata in 1064 A.D. There are also a few Jain basadis.

Malpe Beach:It is 66 kms north of Mangalore. The pristine beauty complemented by peaceful surroundings, make this beach a favorite holiday spot. The St. Mary’s Island, another delightful holiday hangout, is just a boat ride away.

Maravanthe:It is 110 kms north of Mangalore and has a scenic beach.
BaindurIs a hamlet, 45 kms from Maravanthe. It has a beautiful beach nearby. Ottanane near Baindur is famous for its glorious sunset.

Kollur:Is 140 kms north. The famous Mookambika Temple here attracts thousands of devotees.
